Release notes:

A ground-up mobile pass with a coherent motion vocabulary inspired by vinyl. Rebuilt the rating flow around a proper bottom sheet, pulled the whole app closer to feeling like a native music app, and tightened a stack of correctness and perf issues from an internal audit.

Mobile overhaul

• Sticky rate bar on /album with grab-handle drag-to-dismiss and a rebuilt bottom-sheet rating form (large stars, live score, drag-to-rate)
• Pull to refresh on home, feed, and profile with a spinning Deadwax disc
• Compact mobile album hero (cover left, info right)
• Tracklist now above the fold on mobile
• Horizontal reels gain scroll-snap and dynamic edge-fade masks
• 44px tap targets on tiny icon buttons; 16px inputs to kill iOS auto-zoom

Motion — "the needle drop"

Fourteen on-brand animations in one coherent system:

• Universal button-press feedback + haptics on all primary toggles
• Vinyl spinner replaces generic loaders
• Shimmer loading state replaces opacity-pulse
• Star tap pop + rating-complete 360° spin with ring pulse
• Spring bottom-sheet entry + slide-down exit + ink-settle text sweep
• Hero cover needle-drop entrance, hover-tilt on desktop
• Histogram bars stagger-rise; profile tab underline slides
• Follow confetti, listen-later vinyl fly-away, tonearm sweep on navigation
• Diary row hover expand, feed card sleeve-slide entrance
• All of it respects prefers-reduced-motion

Bug fixes

• Fixed "Rendered more hooks" crash on /profile
• Fixed followers/following modal appearing as blurry screen (CSS containing-block gotcha from PullToRefresh's always-on transform)
• Fixed followers list flashing "Follow" before resolving
• Fixed avatar crop modal silently failing (ObjectURL race with React strict mode)
• Fixed double rate celebration on desktop album page
• Fixed stale rating ref after save
• Killed the native blue X on search inputs
• Un-squished the sort pills on mobile search

Performance

• Narrowed album:albums(*) → explicit columns across 8 feed queries; rated-feed rows no longer drag the full MusicBrainz metadata JSON per card
• PullToRefresh listeners no longer re-attach every drag frame
• Album page skeleton rewritten to match the real layout exactly
• Search debounce 500ms → 280ms

Accessibility

• Skip-to-content link
• Nav search inputs now have proper name / id / hidden labels
• Signup form autocomplete works with password managers
• Tracklist durations read as "3 minutes 15 seconds" to screen readers
• Diary dates wrapped in <time> with proper ISO datetime

UX

• Site title + per-route titles ("Settings — Deadwax", username on profiles)
• Signed-out nav gains Popular + About
• Signup rebuilt to match the login theme
• "Need an account?" is a real link now (middle-clickable)
• Rating histogram no longer flexes "5.0" from a single rating
• Missing album art falls back to the Deadwax vinyl mark instead of a blank
• Favorites section tells visitors when someone hasn't picked any yet
• Album pages gain a Details card (label, country, format, tracks, runtime)
• Profile sidebar gains a Listened stat with a fun-fact comparison (e.g. "That's 4× Avengers: Endgame.")

Performance

• Home feed covers lazy-load past the fold
• CoverArtArchive URLs auto-sized by rendered width (-250 / -500 / -1200)
• Avatars resized client-side to 256 px² JPEG before upload (feed avatars were loading full-camera resolution for 14 px slots)

New

• Avatar crop modal on /settings — pan, zoom, confirm

What's new

New look. New stylus-and-disc logo, cleaner landing page, better layout on tablets and phones. Share button on album pages. Hit it on a rated album and your review turns into a card you can send — cover + your rating + review snippet. Same card previews when you paste a link in iMessage, Discord, etc. Search is faster and smarter. Fuzzy matching catches typos. "artist - title" queries get structured for better accuracy. Exact matches float to the top. First-load feels snappier. Artist pictures are back. Multi-source fallback (Deezer / iTunes / Wikipedia) since the old source went down. Attach a screenshot when you report a bug. Hit Feedback in the footer and there's now an image picker. Click "Most Listened" on your profile to see every album you've rated by that artist. Spinning-record indicator in the top-right if a page is taking a bit to load, so you know something's happening.
