Deadwax is a place to log the music you actually listen to, rate it honestly, and share it with friends. Very much based on the developers own personal love for the community at letterboxd and my anime lists.
Think of Deadwax as Letterboxd for albums. You rate records out of five stars, write reviews, keep a Listen Later list, and follow people whose taste you trust.
Every album page shows what your friends gave it, a rating histogram, and the most-liked reviews. The home feed shows what people you follow have rated recently in chronological order.
Album and artist data comes from the open MusicBrainz catalogue. Cover art is fetched from the Cover Art Archive and cached on first view.
The big music apps are great at playback and terrible at memory. They know what you played but not how you felt about it, and the social layer is mostly missing. I really wanted to have a place to log what i was listening too, and see what my friends were listening too.
Deadwax is just a personal record of what you like or dislike, shared with the handful of people whose taste you trust and enjoy.
I'm Noah a developer and entertainment lover. I built Deadwax because I wanted a place to log what I'm listening to and see what my friends are into.
It's a one-person project running on Next.js, Supabase, and a healthy amount of weekends. Every feature you see was built because I wanted it for myself.
